Black Peak Shadow Ranch typically receives 3 landowner elk permits issued through the NMDGF, 3 muzzleloader elk permits, 1 archery elk permit, and 2 antlerless/cow elk permits. These permits have been designated Unit-Wide. The average cost of an archery elk landowner permit in Unit 15 during the 2022 season was $9,000 to $11,000 with muzzleloader elk landowner permits selling for $8,000.00

Lush Meadows, Grazing. Wells and Water Systems

The lush green meadows, rich in cool season and gram grasses, of Black Peak Shadow Ranch are excellent summer
pasture for roping and/or cutting horses. The additional 1, 120 acres of leased ground will adequately support a number of roping steers providing additional ground for rotating and circulation. Black Peak Shadow Ranch currently runs 140 steers from May to November. The 1,120acres of BLM land is permitted for 43 head, plus or minus, depending on grass conditions. With an average gain of 200 to 225 pounds the cattle operation on the ranch generates a substantial income. There are 4 good wells on the ranch. The house well runs on a submersible electric pump and 3 pasture wells run on windmills. The ranch has numerous dirt tanks providing adequate water for livestock and wildlife.

Beautiful Ranch House, Barn, Bunkhouse, and old log cabin

A beautiful ranch house with a full-length west-facing porch that overlooks the property was built in 2000. The ranch house is approximately 3,200 square feet with 4bedrooms upstairs, 1 bedroom and 1 office/bedroom downstairs, and a total of 6 bathrooms. Downstairs has a large living room, with surrounding windows that provide a spectacular view of the ranch, a large dining room with bay windows and ample seating, a full kitchen with double oven, six burner stove, and large pantry,.
